Privacy Policy
The Curious Society · Last updated: 3 September 2026
The Curious Society ("we", "us") is a publishing business operating the website the-curious-society.com and the newsletter The Curious Society. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what your rights are. We keep it in plain English on purpose.
Who we are
The Curious Society is operated from the United Kingdom. For anything related to your personal data, contact us at: natalia@the-curious-society.com
What we collect, and why
Newsletter subscription. When you subscribe, we collect your email address and, where you provide it, your name. We use it to send you the newsletter you asked for. Our newsletter is delivered through Beehiiv, which processes this data on our behalf. Like most newsletters, we can see aggregate engagement data (whether emails are opened and which links are clicked) so we can understand what readers find useful.
Purchases. When you buy one of our products (such as a workbook), the checkout is operated by Beehiiv with payment processing by Stripe. We receive your email address and order details. We never see or store your card number, that stays with Stripe.
Website analytics. We use analytics tools to understand how people find and use our website, so we can make it more useful. These may include Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity (which records anonymised interaction patterns such as scrolling and clicking), Microsoft Bing Webmaster Tools, and analytics provided by the platforms where we publish (such as Pinterest and LinkedIn). This data is aggregated or pseudonymised — we use it to see patterns, not to identify you personally.
Cookies. Our website and the tools above may set cookies for the purposes described here. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Legal bases
Under UK GDPR, we rely on: consent (you subscribed to the newsletter and can withdraw at any time), contract (processing needed to deliver a product you bought), and legitimate interest (understanding how our website and content perform, in ways that respect your privacy).
Who we share data with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who make the business run, acting as processors on our behalf: Beehiiv (newsletter and checkout), Stripe (payments), Wix (website hosting), Google and Microsoft (analytics), and Buffer (social media publishing). Some of these providers are based outside the UK/EEA; where that is the case, transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
We keep subscriber data for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your address is retained only as needed to honour your opt-out. Order records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes. Analytics data is retained according to each tool's standard retention settings.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict our processing of it, and receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email us at the address above. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in the footer of every email. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Our website and newsletter are intended for adults and are not directed at children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top.
